Prayer time at the Ground Zero mosque (pictorial)

Atlas linked to this post a while back. For those who only read about goings on in NYC and the proposed mosque at Ground Zero (yes, two blocks away is at Ground Zero – if you were two blocks away when the Towers crumbled you wouldn’t even begin to argue even for selfish semantic purposes), the pictures and commentary from ‘el Marco’ help crystallize things. Phenomenal perspective big media will never provide. All images and descriptions via Looking at the Left, who has much more:

Prayer Time at the Ground Zero Mosque Just Another Monument to the Triumph of Islam

New York City, Saturday, June 5, 2010, – by El Marco

I arrived early at the Islamic Center of New York. I came to the city to photograph the rally of Stop Islamization of America (SOIA) on Sunday, June 6th, which is dedicated to stopping the construction of a mega-mosque 600 feet from the gaping hole which was the World Trade Center. First, I visited the Islamic Center Mosque on 96th Street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, miles from ground zero. What is significant about this 1980s mosque is that it was created by the father of the man who is spearheading the Ground Zero mosque project.

Doctor Mohammed Abdul Rauf (1917-2004) was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was formed in Egypt in 1928 and has over 70 branches including Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. The Muslim Brotherhood is classified as a terrorist organization and banned in Egypt as well as the United States.

All is quiet at this site with the main Friday prayers not set to begin until 1:00pm. So, I headed down to Ground Zero. I have not been there since September 11th, 2006.

What I found was heartening. After years of squabbling and delays, construction is finally underway on the vast One World Trade Center Plaza and tower. Looking from the West side of ground zero, I focused on St. Paul’s church, which can be seen nestled amongst the trees of the ancient graveyard. It is the oldest continuously occupied building in New York City and it remained undamaged as the Twin Towers collapsed just feet from the graveyard’s wrought iron gate. General George Washington attended this church during the Revolutionary War, and later, when he was sworn in as President, New York being America’s capital at the time.

The base of the new One World Trade Center tower can be seen here on the left. It is also known as the Freedom Tower. St. Paul’s can be seen in the background.

Next I went looking for 45 Park Place, the address of the proposed 13 story mosque and Islamic center.

Amazingly, it’s right beside a long established saloon the Dakota Roadhouse. This was an odd place to choose for a mosque. The only criterion I could see for this choice of location was proximity to Ground Zero. With the recession, there is plenty of cut-rate real estate in the city, but none so close to Ground Zero. The lady tending bar in The Dakota said she knew little about the activities behind the Greco-Roman columns, but she did say that 9/11 victims’ family members come in often, asking the same questions as I. The three balloons tied to the rail were printed with the words, “Stand with Israel.”

Worshippers were arriving for Friday prayer.

Street vendors from many countries parked their inventory.

I noticed men performing ablutions by the curb.

From gallon jugs they washed their feet, faces, and nostrils, as is commanded by Sharia law. Over the next half hour, hundreds of men entered the mosque, where there is ongoing construction inside.

I only saw five women enter, and they were required to use a side entrance.

After a few latecomers scurried into the building, I knew Friday prayers had begun.

The Cordoba Initiative plans to spend 100,000,000 dollars to finish the mega-mosque, which they will dedicate on September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack.

After prayers ended, hundreds of men from all over the moslem world left to resume their daily activities.

I headed east towards Saint Pauls Church thinking about how the Mega-mosque will be built to 12 stories and will dwarf the old church.

  1. Why am I suddenly so nauseated?? Does no one remember what the hijackers yelled as they flew the planes into the WTC and killed and maimed so many? I do. They yelled: “Allah Akbar”

Why in the name of Heaven are we allowing this?? This is awful.

    Sara

  2. You better remember these people don’t want peace with America ther whole objective is to destroy America and Capitalism.

  3. hand carts and wagons with all their possessions? is this going to be a homeless shelter?
looks like illegals or homeless to me

  4. It is the history of Islam, when they win a victory, to build a mosque on top of the infidel symbol of their victory, in this case as close to the ruins of the World Trade Center as they can. In Istanbul, they converted the beautiful St. Sophia Byzantine church to the Blue Mosque. In Jerusalem, they built the “Dome of the Rock” atop the ruins of Soloman’s Temple. In Spain, in Cordoba, they converted a great Christian church to a Mosque. They have not had a significant victory since Ferdinand and Isabella kicked them out of Spain. They were defeated at the gates of Vienna and a Viennese baker invented the croissant roll in celebration of the Ottoman muslims being turned back.
No significant victory until 9/11 when they destroyed the symbol of American commerce, the World Trade Center. Now, as directed by the Koran they are building their victory mosque on the site of the old Burlington Coat factory building. We are committing suicide by allowing Sharia Law to take over, and make no mistake. That is exactly what is happening with the connivance of Mayor Bloomberg and the NY Planning Commission. The think that if we are nice to them, they won’t hurt us. They view that as weakness and they will hurt us. In fact, they will destroy us and our elected officials are helping them do it.

  5. “Allah Akbar” will echos of the LAST THINGS 3000 people heard as they were killed for no other reason than it was tuesday and they went to work!

Now these animals laugh at us as they will chant there pig prayer over and over again.

  6. Today the Landmark Preservation Commission held a press conference where they announced their NO vote. They will not confer landmark status on the building, not for archetectural reasons and not because its a 9/11 historic building due to its having the landing gear of the one of the planes flown into the Twin Towers crash through its roof.

Today we resolved to do all we can to see to it that Bloomberg never gets elected to public office again. We’re also working on dis-inviting him to the 9/11 ceremony at ground zero. He has no business being there. It would be an insult to all of the families who lost loved ones, all of the people who worked on the pile, the first responders and their families as so many of them suffer with diseases that can not be cured and a life span that has been shortened. It would be an insult to New Yorkers who voiced their opinions, not wanting this mosque as well as Red, White and Blue Americans from all over the nation who let everyone know they felt the same way. There is no denying the majority of Americans did not and do not want this mosque to rise.

The mayor has, by his ordering Community Board 1 and the Landmark Preservation Commission to vote in favor of the mosque, earned the scorn of the 9/11 families, all New Yorkers and all Americans alike.

Keep in mind that Community Board 1 has a mandate to act as advocate for the residents and community it represents. The owners of 45 – 47 Park Place are not representative of the residents or community and regardless of how many people who gave voice to their opposition to the mosque, they voted for it just as Bloomberg wanted them to do.

The Landmark Preservation Commission has granted landmark status to the building Bill Ayres bombed simply because he bombed it. They granted landmark status to Stonewall, the bar that had a riot between gays and police and started the gay rights movement simply because this was a historical event and in spite of the sleaze factor the bar’s reputation earned for itself. but this building was not worthy per this commission as a historic landmark building!

We are no longer a government of, by and for the people. We are now told what government will and will not do by an elite class that needs to be taken down quite a few pegs and booted out the door.

Obama wants this mosque and Bloomberg delivered it to him. Quinn, Stringer and Chin weighed in on the side of the boss and supported the mosque. Cuomo, gutless wonder that he is, is Obama’s pick for governor. He refuses to investigate the funding for this mosque, even though the Imam in charge of it has terrorist ties as did his father who funded the mosque on 96th St in the 1980′s. Be sure not to vote for him.

Join us in telling the Mayor to not show up at the ceremony for 9/11. Spread the word to everyone possible and ask those you know to do the same. Let this be a nationwide call to this mayor to stay home, he’s not invited to the memorial that honors our dead and their families having stomped on their graves.

  7. My God, they have ok’d it. We’ve already ceded American territory on the border to Mexican drug and human smugglers.

How much longer must we tolerate this?? Somehow reminds me of the Intolerable Acts. And this is intolerable

Now, how many more must die with the cry of Allah Akbar? And we’ve allowed it. Shame on us.

  8. How do you defeat an enemy when our government is letting them take us over? I really want to know.

  9. As stated over at Bare Naked Islam, “Now imagine the Muslim call to prayer blasting from the loud speakers as visitors to the Ground Zero Memorial look up in horror.”

  10. The despicable traitor, Bloomberg will have to choose which event he will attend for the tenth anniversary of 9/11. . .the dedication to this triumphalist Islamic structure stabbing the heart of NYC with echos of ‘alla hu akbar’ or the solemn memorial dedicated to the memory of the victims of Islamic murder and treachery.

  11. Obama is a Muslim. His words and actions speak loud and clear.

  12. @Barbara – Bloomberg likely can’t run for mayor again, and likely isn’t interested in another office.

@wtd – easy answer: The 9/11 ceremonies at the WTC site or wherever it’s held now.

However, how does Obama even factor into this equation?

  13. Adam: Obama will not comment on this. He states it’s a local issue. He has already stuck his nose in other “local issues” (remember the Beer Summit, Arizona law, etc) but is too much of a coward to comment publicly on this one. He should comment. One way or the other. Doing nothing is his forte.

  14. Someone should come along and steal their trolleys.

  15. I headed east towards Saint Pauls Church thinking about how the Mega-mosque will be built to 12 stories and will dwarf the old church.

The mosque will use architecture to establish symbolic Islamic supremacy over Christianity in that part of NYC.

Not an accident. Islam has been using that tactic for centuries with minarets.

  16. @Sara Tucker – unlike this mosque issue – immigration policy is historically a national issue…albeit the courts have primary jurisdiction over it. More details though are not the primary topic of this board.

  17. Adam: Then why did he inject himself in the Cambridge controversy? Why did he immediately call the police action “stupid”? He comments on issues he feels will appeal to his base.

This is a HUGE controversy. Washington needs to weigh in. 9/11 was a National Tragedy!!

  18. @Sara Tucker—that Cambridge incident was a lesson learned—since that time, Obama has not injected himself into what is historically considered a local issue.

  19. I weep for our Great Nation and all the Souls Lost on that infamous day. 9/11 was Our call to Take A Stand !! We must not let the mega-mosque be built on Sacred Ground. Keep Fighting for what is Right, Ban sharia law, bring Patriotism back in to our American Culture, Just Say No to islam !!

  20. [...] call to prayer in NYC (video) Posted on August 15, 2010 by creeping Downtown, they are washing their feet and nostrils at the curb, and praying in the street. In midtown, it’s the call to prayer (below). Uptown, it’s [...]

  21. Public nuisance laws? Health laws? Surely, there is something to protect the public at large from this.

    • there are laws against treason and voter intimidation too – the problem? no one is enforcing them or only doing so selectively

  22. Well this is America right? The land of the free.
Muslims can to practice there religion where ever they please. Just like any other religion, there’s no sighs on the streets that says u can’t prepare to cleanse your self before prayer. A lot of people need to educate there self on Islam before they become so negative and closed minded.

  23. Okay well the mosque/center is here now…so why hasn’t anyone made it harder on these islamic-muslims! Why hasn’t anyone spray painted names or damaged the mosque etc…?

If you make it hard on some one to do business/pray in that area…they will leave! If it ends up costing or fearing damage to their property they will leave…sometimes you just have to fight fire with fire! All this Politicial correctness is what has gotten the west in this situation! LOOK AT ENGLAND! DO YOU WANT TO END UP LIKE THEM! THE MUSLIMS THERE WANT SHARIA LAW!

whats next america! If you give in you lose! I say distroy the centre! spray paint all over the mosque!
