The brother of the Harry Potter actor Afshan Azad was jailed for six months yesterday after he was convicted of assaulting her because her boyfriend was not a Muslim.
Ashraf Azad, 28, was sentenced at Manchester crown court after launching a “prolonged and nasty” attack that included dragging her by her hair and punching her repeatedly. The attack began after Ashraf, who pleaded guilty to the assault charge, overheard his sister, 22, talking to her Hindu boyfriend.
The court had previously heard he had branded the actor, who plays the character Padma Patil in the later Harry Potter films, “a prostitute” and had said, “Marry a Muslim or you die”.
Pops threatened to kill his little starlet too:
Abdul Azad, 54, and brother Ashraf Azad, 28, both of Beresford Road, Longsight, have appeared in court.
Abdul is accused of threatening to kill his daughter and Ashraf of threatening to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his sister.
