A former Qantas cabin cleaner has won an appeal against his conviction over a “do-it-yourself” terrorism jihad book.
Belal Saadallah Khazaal, of Lakemba, in Sydney’s south-west, was jailed for at least nine years in September 2009.
A NSW Supreme Court jury found him guilty of making a document – between September 20 and 23, 2003 – connected with assistance in a terrorist act, knowing of that connection.

The 110-page book was titled: Provisions on the Rules of Jihad – Short Judicial Rulings And Organisational Instructions For Fighters And Mujahideen Against Infidels.
On Thursday, the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal allowed his appeal against conviction and ordered a retrial.
Justice Peter McClellan said he would have dismissed the appeal, but two other judges allowed it on one of the four grounds put forward.
The question of Khazaal being granted bail will be dealt with by another court at an unspecified date.

US terrorism expert Evan Kohlmann described the book to the court as a do-it-yourself guide to terrorism aimed at people who didn’t have Osama bin Laden’s telephone number.

Here we have a “former Qantas cabin cleaner” who writes “Jihad Terrorism for Dummies” and he gets a slap on the wrist. Not to mention he was a former cabin cleaner for Qantas air.
Thank god he is no longer employed there.

Don’t know enough about Australian law to know if this is the last word or if this can be appealed. How can a country which shed it’s sons and daughters’ blood for freedom allow such as this to happen?
