The nexus of this string on beheading a cat has nothing to do directly with 1.5 billion muslims. It has to do with a culture (moslem) which encourages this type behavior. Culture is not confined to a set of writings. Culture is the application of basic values to daily situations. If, for example, the culture believes women are worth half that of men in legal situations, will behave in non-legal situations as if it were true. This may lead to women being assaulted freely, confined against their will; forced to assume a certain dress code.

In responding herein, because we are talking about your “Prophet,” his sunnah, the same of His Companions, and of the Kitab Abu ‘l-Qasim brought; all the above resulting in what is commonly known as the consensus of the learned and thus of the Ummah, given that, I will in most instances, allow those sources to do the talking for themselves.
Additionally, though this post will by no means be an exhaustive handling of this issue, I will do my level best to, with time allowed me now, to make it at least a comprehensive substantive post on this subject.
In starting, laying the foundation from which I will comment, I lay the following:
That narrative continues on and has ibn Hisham eventually visiting Ibn Abbas, inquiring of him, details on the writ of the Messenger of Allah. Ibn Abbas responded to that request stating, “Should I not lead you to one who knows better amongst the people of the world about the Witr [sic] of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him).”
That eventuated, as I’m sure you know, in ibn Hisham meeting with Aisha. And ibn Hisham said to her, “Oh Mother of the Faithful, tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him).”
To which Aisha answered, “Don’t you read the Qur’an?” He responded, “Yes.” And she stated, “the character of the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) was the Qur’an.”
Hence, these added comments in the footnotes on this hadith
[Referring to the word translated above as “character”]:
(Another Wise man put it this way: “For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder … lying, and slander.” Matt. 15: 19)
Cited footnotes provided further, state, “The personality of the Holy prophet [sic] was the living embodiment of all those virtues which have been described in the Qur’an.”
The commentator there further adds, “Everything that is needed for right guidance is recorded in the Qur’an.”

History and hadith inform us, Sahabi and revered traditions narrator, Abu Huraira al-Dawasi al-Yamani gained his kunya from “the Prophet,” when the latter there saw the former carrying a cat in his sleeve. No rebuke to Abu Huraira is noted for that action. Fact is, though, upon his conversion to Islam his name was changed from Abd Shams to Abd Allah or Abdur-Rahman, it appears, throughout the ahadith he transmitted, he is referred to by the Kunya mentioned above, the one the prophet gave him.
Additionally, footnotes provided in Sahih Mulsim on abu Huraira also tell us, “he was called abu Huraira because he herded goats, and kept a kitten to play with.” Same source also tells he was a devout Muslim and “one of the prominent members of Ahl Al-Suffa.”

When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: You promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.
So the very next morning he commanded the dogs to be killed. He announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog used for the protection of extensive fields (or big gardens).

Reason thus I elected to make my response to “f i” here, aware of the points you make on “lengthiness” are these: here, at CS, this conversation began, here “f i” directly commented and requested I respond to his questions, here I promised him I would do just that.
Reason, in brief, for the lengthiness of my response is this: this topic demands a fact-based substantive and verifiable address. Hence, the lengthiness of my response, in brief.

Again, hearkening back to what the “sacred Texts,” which of course the Prophet’s life brought to life and characterized, have to state on just how the Believer should treat animals, and to whether or not the Prophet ordered harming animals, we must regard, the Qur’an tells us “the worst of animals in the sight of Allah are those who disbelieve.” (8:55)
Hence, this Qur’anic ordered payment to the disbelievers, the worst of animals in the eyes of Allah, “Kill them wherever you come across them.” (Al-Baqara 2: 191, Tafsir Jalalyan.) Echo, is it not, from the “dog days” of Medina.
No wonder, we have this record–and other variations of it, different raids, different Sahaba: The code of the Companions “was Kill! Kill!”

Next I’ll qualify Qadi ‘Iyad Ibn Musa al-Yahsubi, whose work I cited from earlier herein and will cite from again shortly.
Qadi Iyad, history tells us, was “Imam of his time in hadith and its sciences. He was a scholar of tafsir and its sciences, a faqih in usul, a scholar in grammar, language and Arabic speech, as well as in the battles and linage of the Arabs.”
Biographical notes on the Author of the Shifa also state, “He was tenacious in the truth.”
Same source provides, more than once those with knowledge awarded Qadi Iyad the prized honor award of an ijaza. An ijaza is “a certification, by a teacher that a particular student is qualified to teach a particular subject or to transmit a specific book or collection of traditions.”
Same source tells us, “his conduct as a qadi was universally praised.” (Aisha Bewley, Glossary of Islamic Terms, p. 8, Ta-Ha Publishers, LTD, 2009)
(Qadi—a judge, qualified to judge all matters in accordance with the Shari ‘a and to dispense and enforce legal punishments. [ibid, p. 125])
Again, with respect to the facts on Islam, if one as qualified, honored, and schooled in Islam as Qadi Iyad cannot be trusted as one providing facts on Islam, no one including Allah and his Messenger can be.
With due regard for Qadi Iyad’s work established, consider these comments from his above cited work. The following, provided after a lineup of examples on reasons, when and how, a Muslim should kill, that we find provided for us in the ahadith and sirah, on treatment of some of the worst of animals– disbelievers in Muhammad and his message–Qadi Iyad had this to state:

Thus, in answering your question on how I reasoned that the reason we had such a photo featuring four young hoodlums, all with Muslim names, is that, considering all the above stated, all yet to state herein as well as much in Islam left unstated here, I simply did the math. In other words, I reasoned as stated, the same way I arrive at reasoning 2+2+5+4 = 13–math work.
The “boys” in the shameable repugnant photo at the heart of this discussion, clearly had access to the cats—they were available to them. The cats, the knife, and the willingness to obey Allah and prepare for future beheadings at their hands, all those, they could muster.
That explains such a picture.
Then this amplification on the ayah of the Sword:
Again, it is easy to see how young men charged with the above orders, provided with examples Islam provides for them to copy and put into practice for themselves, would produce the fruit seen in that posted photo. Consider, if one is near a peach and an apple tree, and on the ground, one sees both peaches and apple windfall, one, can, though one did not witness the act of the fruit falling from its respective tree, one can nonetheless safely conclude the apples fell from the apple tree, the peaches, from the peach tree. Why? Because each tree produce fruit after its own kind.
So it is with Islam.
With that stated, winding up this post and my response to your questions, I return again to the record of hadith. Let’s take note of some of those “not too offensive” examples Oadi Iyad mentioned and I cited above, those few “not too offensive” examples provided for our benefit in hadith and sira on how Allah via his messenger shows what is proper treatment for “animals”:
Add the following praise of the above actions to understand sunnah of Islam and thus impetus for the Muslim: “Allah’s Messenger said, ‘The best of my followers are those living in my century (generation), then those coming after them and then those coming after the latter.’”
