US Treasury sanctions two Islamic charities for funding Muslim Brotherhood’s Hamas

via Treasury Designation Latest of Hamas Challenges :: The Investigative Project on Terrorism.

The Treasury Department announced Thursday that it designated two Lebanese-based charities which help fund Hamas.

Al-Waqfiya Al-Ri’aya Al-Usra Al-Filistinya Al-Lubnanya and the Al-Quds International Foundation, both Beirut based, were targeted by the designation, which makes it illegal for people in the United States from doing any business with them. The groups are controlled by Hamas and raise money for relatives of Hamas terrorists and prisoners, along with other projects in the Palestinian territories aimed at boosting Hamas’s standing.

Al-Waqfiya is described as “a central component of the Union of Good” in the Treasury announcement. The Union of Good was designated in 2008 and is led by Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an influential Muslim Brotherhood theologian.

The Treasury Department will continue to work to disrupt Hamas’s efforts to radicalize vulnerable communities and undermine regional stability,” said Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen. “Today’s action represents another step in our effort to ensure that charitable fronts are not used to finance terrorism.”

The designation comes amid difficult times for Hamas. A Washington Times column notes that its cause is being lost amid Arab Spring activity, especially the bloody battle for control of Syria. By siding with opposition leaders against dictator Bashar al-Assad, who along with his late father have allowed Hamas to operate out of Damascus, the group has alienated some supporters, including Iran which has financed Hamas for years.

And Human Rights Watch issued a 43-page report Wednesday detailing a pattern of abuse and torture of prisoners in Hamas custody in Gaza, “including arbitrary arrest, incommunicado detention, torture, and unfair trials.” Hamas, which seized power in Gaza in 2007, “executed at least three men convicted on the basis of ‘confessions’ apparently obtained under torture,” a Human Rights Watch release said.

There were 147 complaints of torture by Hamas police agencies last year alone.

Human Rights Watch called on the Egyptian-based Muslim Brotherhood – Hamas’s parent organization – to rein in the abuse.

“There is ample evidence that Hamas security services are torturing people in custody with impunity and denying prisoners their rights,” said Joe Stork, the group’s deputy Middle East director. “The Gaza authorities should stop ignoring the abuse and ensure that the justice system respects Palestinians’ rights.”

More schizophrenia from the U.S. government who has worked with the Muslim Brotherhood, invited MB members to the White House, provided them significant funding, yet designates those who fund a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, as terror groups. If you sanction Hamas, how do you not sanction its parent organization, and its U.S. wing – CAIR?

  1. Let me ask a question but first. I am against muslims and their sharia law and what it stands for. But why are they coming down on these charities for sending money to hamas when the American government is sending billions of dollars to these people? First the government needs to be held accountable for funding hamas, then go after these people. They just want to make people believe that they are protecting the citizens of this country when they are not. Stop hamas in this country by starting with the MSA in our colleges. . Peace to all non-muslims who see what is going on.

  2. The US is islam’s dhimmi as is so many other governments, including Israel. Politicians, academia, the media and even religious leaders are all afraid of islam – to read its texts and to find out for themselves that islam is evil and violent. And this has been going on for centuries. That is why moslems are so good at infiltrating our governments and other institutions.

And as far as Hamas abusing other moslems – I don’t care anymore. If we help them, they turn around and hate and kill us. Sorry but their own ancestors sold their children’s futures out and they have to be the ones to fight for their rights. At some point, they have to recognize evil. At some point, so do we.

But, for anyone who doesn’t realize that part of zakat is required to fund their violent jihadists, here is one book of sharia that states it – other schools of sharia also agree.

Sharia law: h8.17 The seventh category (of recipients of zakat) is those fighting for Allah, meaning people engaged in Islamic military operations for whom no salary has been allotted in the army roster (O: but who are volunteers for Jihad without remuneration). They are given enough to suffice them for the operation, even if affluent; of weapons, mounts, clothing, and expenses (O: for the duration of the journey, round trip, and the time they spend there, even if prolonged. Though nothing has been mentioned here of the expense involved in supporting such people’s families during this period, it seems clear that they should also be given it).

  3. It will be difficult to get Obama out becasue he is always appealing to the jobless and immigrants. It goes without saying the Muslims will block vote for him unless they have ingrated in to the US way of life and are not practising Muslim which will probably be very few. I hope Mitt gets in.

If sharia law continues spreading, you'll have less and less freedom of speech - so speak while you can!
