Playing to its fabricated-for-political-purposes victim status, the Tennessee Muslim American Center for Outreach (formerly referred to simply as American Center for Outreach or ACO) and the Muslim Community of Knoxville, will be commemorating Black History month by talking about Muslims.
A narrative being shopped by CAIR and other U.S. Islamist organizations is that Muslims were among the slaves brought to the New World by the Europeans. Sharing the slave experience with Muslim and non-Muslim African-Americans, they then bootstrap this to the current U.S. Muslim political narrative of a shared civil rights struggle.

Remziya Suleyman, Director of the Muslim American Center for Outreach (MACO), told her audience (around minute 44) this past June that even though she didn’t know what sharia was, she was going to defend it. “I never knew the concept of sharia…I called imams across the state and I was like guys what is sharia? I gotta go talk to politicians.” She also brought Hamas-linked, unindicted Holy Land Foundation co-conspirator CAIR to Tennessee to assist her.
Imam Rafiq Madhi, a black American convert to Islam who started with the racist and anti-Semitic Nation of Islam completed his Islamic training in Saudi Arabia at the University of Medina. His resume includes serving at what was described as a “small fundamentalist mosque” in Florida, a mosque that also served the needs of Jose Padilla who with ties to al Qaeda, was convicted of planning a “dirty bomb” attack in support of jihad. Imam Madhi believes that “Islam is Islam, and it has been since it was revealed 1400 and some odd years ago, and it is not the right of any individual to take it upon themselves to change it based on their own rationale or want or desire. We want to keep it in the truest form.” He claims that most Muslims do not see Hamas as a terrorist organization, and he would like to hear Osama Bin Laden’s “side of the story” because he’s not convinced he was behind 9/11. In 2002, helped fundraise for the KindHearts Foundation which shut down under suspicion of raising money for Hamas.
Malik Shaw is also a black American convert to Islam. He is currently the Vice Principal at the Muslim Brotherhood Pleasant View School in Memphis discussed in Newsletter #43. Shaw and his wife, also a convert, helped to start the American Muslim Intercultural Network “to address the needs of the Muslims of American heritage.” Each month, they host “Convert-sations,” in part to remind Americans of their Muslim roots.
The Islamic Slave Trade was REAL and predated the European Slave Trade
Thanks to the Council on Islamic Education (CIE) historical facts about the Islamic slave trade have either been written out or whitewashed in social studies textbooks, so no one should be surprised if the panel speakers are not well informed about this unclaimed part of their history.
Chelby Daigle, a Black Muslim in Canada writing about Black History month for “Muslim Link” states:
I often find it frustrating to be around Muslims during Black History Month. Why? Because, although there is often a celebration of Black converts to Islam, like Malcolm X, and condemnation of the Transatlantic Slave Trade perpetrated by the West, there is little, if any, examination of the history of slavery in Muslim societies or of the persistence of anti-Black racism within these societies as well as within Muslim communities in Canada. The reality is I have faced more blatant anti-Black racism from my fellow Muslims than I ever did growing up in a predominantly White community.
It is important for Muslims to look deeper at their particular societies of origin in order to see how the enslavement of Black peoples in these societies has led to the development of anti-Black racism. For example, the fact that in several Arab dialects the word ʻabd, meaning slave, is used to refer to any Black person demonstrates that in these societies the equation of Black people with slaves still persists.
In 2002, historian Dr. Kwaku Pearson-Lynn, also of African descent, in her piece titled “Christianity, Islam and Slavery” asserts that the Arab invasion of North Africa in the 7th century A.D. to spread Islam also changed the face of slavery in this part of the world. “Afrikans were captured, treated brutally and inhumanely, then shipped off to other Arab countries in Asia, or other parts of Afrika that they controlled. This happened approximately 600 years before the European Christians got involved.”
Her academic integrity also addresses the contributions of Christians and Jews to the travesty of the slave trade. HOWEVER, she notes that the slave trading in force today is conducted “still in the name of Islam.” Simon Deng, Francis Bok and Charles Jacobs can personally confirm this fact.
Regardless of the Islamist pitch, there is no humanity in slavery regardless of Islam’s alleged doctrinal allowances for humane treatment of slaves.
Given that Islam in the Black slave history plays a similar and yet continuing role, why would Black Americans ever convert to Islam? Why embrace a religion and culture whose lexicon denigrates Black humanity in both word and act?
What would happen if Islamist organizations allowed the accurate history of the Islamic slave trade to be taught in schools or even included in textbooks? Do Muslim writers avoid the truth of the Islamic slave trade because it is not safe for them to write about a part of Muslim history that reflects negatively on Islam?
