Minnesota: Taxpayers fund private rooms with Islamic prayer rugs, halal lunches in public schools

Taxation for Islamization as Muslim refugees and immigrants keep implementing the sharia across the U.S. Forget assimilation. via: How one Minnesota school district handles a rising immigrant population | PBS NewsHour   h/t Free Republic

Bishar Hassan spends his days navigating the halls and classrooms of Talahi Elementary School, working to embrace and empower the dozens of Somali students who have arrived since the start of the year.

Across town, his brother, Ahmed Hassan, fills a similar role at Discovery Community School, another campus that has experienced a recent surge in enrollment of Somali students.

The Hassan brothers are part of a growing community of Somali residents in this central Minnesota city of 65,000. The recent influx of immigrant students is nothing new in the St. Cloud school district, where English-language-learner enrollment has spiked by 350 percent in the past 15 years.

Today, roughly 20 percent of the district’s 10,000 students are English-language learners, many of them with ties to the East African nation of Somalia.

Similar situations are developing in districts around the country.

The United States is now home to the largest number of foreign-born black people in its history—and many are K-12 students enrolled in public schools.

Nationwide, nearly 35,000 K-12 students report that they speak Somali at home, making it the eighth most common native language for English-learners in public schools, according to federal data from the 2013-14 school year.

Despite recognition from the U.S. Department of Education for its efforts to educate ELLs, the district hasn’t been able to close a yawning achievement gap between English-learners and native English speakers—a problem that vexes most school systems.

Talahi Elementary, where roughly 45 percent of students are Somali, is a state “priority school,” a label attached to Minnesota’s most persistently low-performing Title I schools. With test scores among the bottom 5 percent in the state, the state department of education is closely monitoring Talahi’s performance and turnaround plans.

While St. Cloud works to support the English-language development of its students, district officials say it has been just as important to make Somali students and their families feel welcome in schools and part of the community, which remains a work in progress.

In the district’s middle and high schools, Muslim students have access to private rooms with prayer rugs for the five daily prayers. Districtwide, school lunch menus provide pork-free options for students, and staff members try to spur the newcomer students’ interest in sports, culture clubs, and other extracurricular activities to develop connections beyond the classroom.

It bears repeating, “Similar situations are developing in districts around the country.” Many examples here, including:

Minnesota: Muslims at Apple Valley High School get prayer time during school

Maryland: Muslims excused from class early for daily prayers

  1. 100% do not understand how the State or School District on it’s own accord is breaking Federal Law without Consequences. Perhaps, some prosecutor should file a Brief in Federal Court that the School Districts is breaking the law by allowing Prayer at School, taxpayers dollars to used towards the promotion of a Religion that is not their; basically a donation to the furtherance of Islam. Finally, the School District is not giving equal time and space to other Religions to Pray. For example, Religious Jews pray 3 times with 10 or more fellow Jews. I am sure it could be utilized for communal prayer of thanks, blessing before or after meals. These students are effectively being discriminated against. In fact students who pray, or make a cross at say a football game after touch down or organize group prayer as a minute of silence at the school’s Flag Pole have been taken out of the game or suspended. How can Authorities treat one group of students above at the expense of another group of students.

    • I cannot agree with you more. What happened to assimilation. Why are these COLONISTS treated so specially? In 1971 I swore an oath to defend this country and OUR WAY OF LIFE. This oath has no end date.

  2. The Muslims tried this in the middle ages and our Church drove them out in the name of Christ. If allowed to continue unfettered they will remove Christ from the earth and Satan will rule without restraint! Jesus warned us of this evil religion, but political correctness and selfish sin has given the devil a foothold. It is up to us, the remnant of Christendom, to destroy this false prophet and all of his evil followers from the earth! Now is the time. Grow some courage and fight back! Your very futures depend on it!

      • How right you are! Take back schools start with courageous students willing to battle the school power structure BACKED BY PARENTS and VOTERS.

  3. If you read the full, original, and unedited article; it clearly states that per federal law, all students have access to the room, not just Muslims. A little source checking goes a long way!

    • PBS clearly states in the article, sourced and fact-checked above:

“In the district’s middle and high schools, Muslim students have access to private rooms with prayer rugs for the five daily prayers.”

You can pretend it’s for everyone if you want but non-muslim students don’t need Muslim prayer rugs and for the last 100+ years non-Muslims have not requested private prayer rooms in schools or time off from class to pray 5 times daily. And the ACLU has waged a relentless war against prayer in school.

The govt (ie, taxpayers) certainly would not pay for Bibles and crosses for private Christian prayer rooms or Torah’s for Jewish prayer rooms, but for Islam it’s different.

Go there and try and use the room – see what happens when you handle the prayer rug or leave your cross or other non-muslim symbol/book/etc in the room.

What the school says for legal reasons and what and who the rooms were built for and how Muslims police the rooms are quite different…and quite obvious…to everyone but you.

    • This incident is taking place in MN–the State of muslim Rep. Keith Ellison. No wonder they are funding muzzlum “prayers” and such. If a “prayer room” is open to the general public then the furnishings must reflect that. I personally volunteer as a Protestant lay-minister at one of the local prisons. Our “chapel” room is furnished with removable folding chairs and a piano on wheels. No icons or other religious material is ever visible–Bibles and other religious literature are brought in depending on whoever happens to be using the room at the time. This crapola about opening up muzzie prayer rooms to the general public is a total misnomer and a LIE! Everybody knows (especially the MUZZLUMZ) that you can’t go into a mosque carrying a Bible or a cross or a crucifix hanging around your neck! You’d be lucky to come out alive!!!!! The ACLU is the biggest hypocritical outfit ever! They defend criminals and anti-Americans. They make it their business to silence all public recognition of Christianity, but will wrap their arms around every MUZZLUM THUG who comes down the pike “because he has a right to worship as he choses”!!! It’s time to learn what IZZLAM really teaches–that ALL NON-MUZZLUMZ MUST SUBMIT OR DIE!

If sharia law continues spreading, you'll have less and less freedom of speech - so speak while you can!
