The Islamic Center of Boca Raton is no longer a polling site following a news report by Gossip Extra which stated that it had drawn complaints.
“The site has been replaced with a library,” Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher told the Miami Herald in a one-sentence email.
Bucher, who is a Democrat, didn’t respond to other questions by the Herald including if her decision was driven by complaints. The site is still listed on the elections office’s list of polling locations.
Jose Lambiet’s Gossip Extra reported earlier today that dozens of voters had called Bucher to complain about the new site. Lambiet wrote that the center was co-founded by Ibrahim Dremali, an Imam who was known to openly raise money for the terror anti-Israel group Hamas. Dremali has since moved to Texas. Lambiet reported that Bucher was reconsidering whether to use the site for the Nov. 8 presidential election.
Representatives at the Islamic Center could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.
As posted by Gossip Extra:
The center was co-founded by Ibrahim Dremali, an Imam who was known to openly raise money for the terror anti-Israel group Hamas.
Dremali, who has since moved to Austin, Texas, told a crowd at a Miami rally where Israeli flags were burned: “With jihad we’ll claim our land, Zionist blood will wet the sand.” He told folks “not to be sad for those who were martyred, and to not be afraid to die for what [they] believe in.”
Wait, there’s more.
Another co-founder was Florida Atlantic University professor Bassem Al Halabi, who’s now the mosque’s president.
More on Dremali: Imam and wife arrested on immigration fraud charges
An imam with ties to mosques in Florida and Iowa has been arrested on immigration fraud charges.
A Muslim religious leader and his wife have been charged with engaging in fraudulent marriages to others to gain U.S. citizenship.Investigators say Ibrahim Abdelrahman Dremali and Safaa Rashad Eissa of Arlington, Texas, were married in Egypt before either came to the United States. He arrived in 1989 and she in 1991.
Both married U.S. citizens in Florida and divorced within a few years, the report said. They were married again to each other in Florida shortly after Eissa’s 1997 divorce, officials said.
Dremali testified on behalf of Adham Amin Hassoun during a 2002 bond hearing, attesting to Hassoun’s “peaceful and generous” character. Hassoun would later be indicted for “actively recruiting mujahideen fighters and raising funds for violent jihad” and conspiracy to murder, kidnap, and maim persons in a foreign country,” in order to “advance violent jihad,” including “murder, kidnapping, and maiming,” to establish “Islamic states under Sharia.”
Hassoun was convicted in 2007.
Bassem Alhalabi has been an Associate Professor at FAU’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, since August 2002. Prior to arriving at FAU, Alhalabi was located in Tampa at the University of South Florida (USF), working as an assistant to USF Professor Sami al-Arian, while al-Arian was a leader in Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Alhalabi co-authored publications with al-Arian and, when applying to FAU, he used al-Arian as a reference. In May 2006, al-Arian was sentenced to 57 months in prison, after pleading guilty to providing services to PIJ.
Alhalabi has been in trouble with the law, himself. In March 2010, Alhalabi was arrested for physically assaulting two individuals during a Muslim Capitol Day function in Tallahassee, Florida. The assaults took place an hour apart from one another. And in June 2003, the US Department of Commerce charged Alhalabi with illegally shipping a $13,000 military-grade thermal imaging device to Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism.
Alhalabi is a Director and co-founder of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR). During his leadership, for three years, the ICBR website had an essay prominently posted on it, stating, “Jews are people of treachery and betrayal… As the Muslims and Jews are enemies residing in opposing religious and doctrinal camps, it is not possible for them to be brought together unless one is made to submit to the other by force… [Muhammad] said, ‘You will fight the Jews and will prevail over them, so that a rock will say, O Muslim! There is Jew behind me, kill him!’”
