Minnesota: Terror-linked CAIR looks to shakedown UPS over Muslim prayer times

The global shipping company United Parcel Service and an Edina staffing agency are being sued for allegedly barring Muslim workers from fulfilling their prayer requirements at the UPS warehouse facility in Mendota Heights and then firing them.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) is representing the plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed last week in Hennepin County District Court against UPS and Doherty Staffing Solutions on behalf of two line workers who were fired in June 2014.

Abdullahi Dahir and Abdifatah Hassan said they had been allowed to pray as needed while at work until UPS hired a new operations manager. That manager refused to let Muslim employees pray outside of regular break times and also warned them against using trips to the bathroom to fulfill their need to pray five times a day, the suit contends. Those who didn’t comply were fired, the suit alleges.

“There is no lawful reason for any company to stop Muslims from praying when previously that company had allowed such prayers in a manner that did not impact the workplace,” said CAIR-MN’s civil rights director Amir Malik, one of the plaintiffs’ attorneys. UPS and Doherty Staffing Solutions withdrew “this reasonable accommodation … in order to get rid of the Muslim employees,” Malik said in a statement announcing the suit.

In response to the suit, UPS said in a statement that it joined with Doherty in a thorough investigation “and found no evidence to support these allegations.” When contacted Monday, a Doherty representative made no one available to respond and declined to take a message.

During a UPS employee meeting, the suit reads, operations manager Scott Klein asked for a show of hands from anyone needing to pray at work. Most Muslim workers raised their hands. Then, according to the lawsuit, “Mr. Klein stated that he wanted to replace all of the employees who had raised their hands.”

Despite further talks between management and the plaintiffs, the Muslim workers were barred from meeting their prayer needs, sent home and told not to return if they insisted on praying at the required times.

“Faced with losing his job or losing his religion,” CAIR-MN said in its statement announcing the suit, “Mr. Hassan and other Somali Muslim workers were forced out of their employment at the UPS facility.”

Doherty is a defendant, the statement explained, because the agency “abdicated [its] role as a staffing agency and let the Muslims be terminated.”

The suit claims violations of the Minnesota Human Rights Act, and it seeks an unspecified amount of damages for alleged discrimination based on religious affiliation, race and national origin.

  1. Africa has been backwards for more than 2000 years. Now they want to bring that backwards here. This country didn’t become great because we stopped 5 times a day to pray. We worked hard and then prayed in private. God Bless the USA.

UPS, a company in existence for almost 110 years has up till just a few years ago always maintained very strict dress and appearance standards from its drivers as a requirement of employment, now has begun to allow full beards. In the past showing up for work with a five o’clock shadow or a mustache extending below the corners of a drivers mouth was grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination, but at the new more Sharia compliant leaning work environment of UPS even non-Muslim drivers are frequently seen sporting full facial hair. UPS policy has always restricted hats and head coverings to only ones that are UPS branded and company provided, but I suspect it won’t be long before female UPS delivery drivers will start showing up at your front door with hijabs on. I wonder if I will still get my honey baked spiral-cut Christmas ham brought to my door, or will I be required to drive to the customer counter to pick it up because my Muslim driver refuses to carry it to my door? Respect the Sharia!!!…or else.

  3. Isn’t it time other religions demand prayer time at work? Why isn’t anyone doing this? Imagine an RN who needs to desperately go pray for a patient who is dying? How many Christians activly demonstrate their religion? Of course I am being ridiculous, but if we DID start demanding special religious rights, heck, even CONTRIVED ones, soon employers would get fed up and tell all religious people to “knock it off” or get fired.

  4. These people believe, that “allah” (the devil), will reward them, with 72 Virgins & they could Not be more Wrong! Mohammad was a Dyslexic & misinterpreted the Quran! It says, “27 Virgins, will I reward You, BUTT YOU will NOT know, if they are Male, or Female, until You get here, SUCKERS”!!!

  5. My last UPS delivery was kicked off the back of the truck, three feet to the ground. The box was damaged, the box was labeled fragile sensitive electronic equipment. The driver didn’t want help, she was full of attitude and insisted on throwing the box up on the porch by herself. I felt lucky the equipment was not damaged. I wonder if she missed one of her calls to prayer. Would a Muslim be qualified enough to take this job?

  6. I applaud the new manager who told the muzzrats to take a hike! America was founded on fair play and teamwork! These oddball jerks need to get with the program or GET LOST! BTW, Christians are instructed in the N.T. to “pray without ceasing”! Does that mean they should disrespect their employers by insisting on getting paid for NEVER WORKING????? P. S.–muslim “prayers” are no more and no less than CURSES against all non-muszzlumz! Their “prayer” times should be called PREYERS b/c they are predatory evil RANTS!!!!!
