The city of Long Beach will pay $85,000 to settle a 2016 federal lawsuit filed by a Muslim woman after an officer forcibly removed her hijab, or headscarf, when she was in police custody.
The incident started when Kirsty Powell and her husband were pulled over by police for driving a “low rider” car, according to the lawsuit.
Powell was the passenger, but was arrested after police found a warrant under her name for a shoplifting incident.
[There were actually three warrants in her name. Apparently her sister is also a criminal.]
Powell’s husband requested a female officer handle the arrest, according to the suit, but the arresting officers denied the request and told Powell she had to remove her hijab.
Powell spent the night in prison without her headscarf. It was returned when her husband posted her bond.
The lawsuit states Powell was “forced to appear in a publicly available booking photo without her religious headwear.”
Adding,” As a result of the foregoing deprivations of the free exercise of her religion, Kirsty Powell suffered severe discomfort, humiliation, and emotional distress.”
After the lawsuit was filed, the Long Beach Police Department changed its policy to allow an arrested person to wear religious headgear unless there is a safety concern, the Los Angeles Times reported.
She had no problem committing crimes, stealing from the kuffar, but to remove the head covering was just humiliating. She won’t have to steal as much now even after terror-linked CAIR takes their cut.
Yet, the hijabi helped advance sharia in America, despite it not being Islamic. via Imam Says Hijab is a ’20th Century Invention’
…in Islam, “the principle of [modest] clothing is to achieve decency in a given culture. But there is no canonical dress.”
“The Prophet and Muslim women [in his time] dressed like the pagans,” said the imam. “Islam did not bring a new dress.”
Oubrou said, “A Muslim who does not cover her hair is just as Muslim who covers…the headscarf does not make a woman a true Muslim.”
“We do not dictate to the woman how she should be modest,” Oubrou said.
