The Muslim college student who lied to cops about getting attacked on the subway by drunken Trump supporters took a plea deal on Friday.
Yasmin Seweid, 19, copped to falsely reporting an incident and disorderly conduct for the bogus claim.
Seweid, of New Hyde Park, L.I., said hate-filled white men harassed her and tried to snatch the hijab off her head during an encounter on the No. 6 train on Dec. 1.
Seweid previously admitted she wasted police resources to cover up for her missed curfew.
She must go through six months of counseling and complete three days of community service.
If Seweid fulfills the terms of her deal, the top charge against her will be tossed and she’ll be left with just a violation.
The prosecutor read an apology letter from Seweid.
“I was stupid,” the teen wrote. “I plan to continue to find ways to better myself.”
She’s due back in court in November to update the court on her progress.
The NY Daily News provides cover by pretending this was just about a curfew and not about Islamic supremacism and misogyny, not to mention anti-white hate that acceptable in America and goes unpunished. Her lies were detailed and well thought out as reported previously: NYC: Muslim teen arrested, admits lying about white Trump supporters attacking her
She claimed the drunken white men taunted her, telling her ‘you don’t belong here’ and referred to her hijab as a ‘rag.’
Seweid also reported that one of the men grabbed her bag, breaking the strap, and another tried to take off her hijab before she fled the train at Grand Central Station to try and flag down police.
She posted about the ‘traumatizing’ ordeal on Facebook and it quickly went viral.
Police originally investigated the case as an anti-Muslim bias incident and spent significant resources trying to track down those responsible.
Authorities looked at surveillance footage but could not find evidence to corroborate Seweid’s story.
Seweid finally admitted to police on Tuesday that she had fabricated the story, saying she wanted to get attention because she was having family issues at home.
She was charged with filing a false report and obstructing governmental administration.
The teenager went missing for several days after the ordeal and was reported missing by her father Sayeed Seweid.
According to DNA Info:
A source explained that, given the amount of time detectives spent chasing the phony story, and how politically charged the allegation was, the police and prosecutors felt compelled to charge her, particularly since they said they had given her numerous opportunities to come clean earlier in the process. She repeatedly refused to tell the truth for weeks, they added.
Maybe she was afraid of being ‘honor killed’ by her family, via the Daily News: Muslim college student made up Trump supporter subway attack story
Her strict, Muslim parents allegedly forced Seweid to shave her head over the incident and were upset that she was dating a Christian, sources said.
The bareheaded Baruch College student, not wearing her hijab, was charged with filing a false report and released after her arraignment early Thursday in Manhattan Criminal Court. A relative covered Seweid’s face with a black down jacket as she was escorted into a waiting SUV following her brief court appearance.
She faces up to a year in jail for each charge.
Seweid admitted that she lied to throw off her parents, who are Egyptian immigrants, because they disapproved of her boyfriend, a source said.
Fake anti-Muslim hate crimes run in the family:
In a bizarre twist, Seweid’s older brother, Abdoul, was also charged with falsely reporting an incident back in 2012.
Cops said Abdoul, then 17, claimed a pal was “assaulted by three unknown males,” according to a Newsday story at the time.
He and four other teens were charged with grand larceny and conspiracy for allegedly breaking into parked cars and stealing any valuables they found.
The #FakeNews media ran with this all too unbelievable story just like they did in Louisiana: Muslim woman admits faked hate crime, blamed white Trump supporters.
She should be in jail.
Who is providing this Muslim counseling? The imam? The mosque?
