More than 100 neighbors and supporters of the Hedaya Islamic Community Center turned out at the Overland Park Planning Commission Monday — so many that officials had to open up an overflow conference room. A neighborhood opposition leader said there would have been an even bigger turnout had it not been spring break.
But after two hours of discussion commissioners approved a preliminary plan for the corner at 16301 Roe Avenue, next door to Blue Valley Elementary and Middle schools.
“Zoning and land use issues are not a plebiscite of the neighborhood,” said real estate lawyer John Petersen, on behalf of the applicant. Petersen emphasized that the plan proposed by the Islamic Center is very similar to the one approved in 2007 for the Cambridge Church.
“Really when you stop and think about it… this is the textbook location for a faith-based community operation,” Petersen said.
The crowd was warned by Planning Commission Chairman Thomas Robinett that the discussion should be limited to planning and land use issues, and that federal civil rights law protects religious land use.
Speakers generally kept to the issues or parking and neighborhood disruption, although one woman who mistakenly stood up to speak during a hearing on a different property started to question the Islamic group’s affiliations. She was stopped before she could go further.
Attorney Doug Patterson, who spoke on behalf of the neighborhood, said cities typically give places of worship a “pass” on some of the stricter rules for commercial development. Most of the activity in a typical house of worship is limited to just a part of the week, he said. But this project is different, he said.
“If we were talking about a true place of worship that had a related hall for food and gatherings and meetings I don’t think we would be here,” Patterson said.
The mosque portion is only 16 percent of the entire project, he said. “If this facility were not sponsored by an organization affiliated with a faith,” but rather sponsored by a private developer seeking to build a school and other amenities the city would say “absolutely not,” Patterson said.
The school and banquet hall would make for too much use only 60 feet from the closest house, he said.
In the end, commissioners approved the plan 9-0, saying it is a good fit and that it was similar to the original church plan.
Unfortunately for residents of Overland Park, the only thing “textbook” about “faith-based” Islamic communities is that they must follow their faith: Islam. And Islam requires sharia and jihad against non-believers.
March 11, 2019 The Planning Commission meeting regarding the Islamic Center of Kansas and Muslim American Society of Kansas City expansion project….
The video below contains some interesting segments and a hot mic comment by the Planning Commission Chair. There was a woman who arrived early and asked about the ties the Mosque has but was quickly silenced, and the issue was never raised again. Watch below.
From our previous post on this Muslim Brotherhood monstrosity that will plague Overland Park for decades to come.
This is a Muslim Brotherhood-linked entity that was created exactly three months after the September 11, 2001 Islamic jihad attacks on America.
The Center was established on December 11, 2001 to serve the local and growing vibrant Muslim community in Kansas. The Center is a “Not for Profit” Islamic organization registered and incorporated in the State of Kansas, USA. The Center is Tax Exempt under the rules of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the State of Kansas 501 (c) (3) Code.
The Center is located at 14750 W 143rd street, Olathe, KS 66062. It was purchased and is owned by the local Muslim Community as Islamic Center of Kansas (ICK) on December 2005. It is also registered as an Islamic Trust (Waqf) with North American Islamic Trust (NAIT).
A recently declassified FBI memo from December 1987 stated that NAIT’s “support of Jihad (a holy war) in the U.S. has been evidenced by the financial and organizational support provided through NAIT from Middle East countries to Muslims residing in the U.S. and Canada.” That support, added the memo, “includes planning, organizing and funding anti-U.S. and anti-Israel demonstrations, pro-PLO demonstrations, and the distribution of political propaganda against U.S. policies in the Middle East and in support of the Islamic Revolution as advocated by the (Government of Iran).”
Another FBI memo from the late eighties indicated that “within the organizational structure of NAIT, there have been numerous groups and individuals identified as being a part of a covert network of revolutionaries who have clearly indicated there (sic) support for the Islamic Revolution as advocated by the Ayatollah Khomeini and his government as well as other fanatical Islamic Shiite fundamentalist leaders in the Middle East.” “This faction of Muslims have declared war on the United States, Israel and any other country they deem as an enemy of Islam,” the memo stated, “… the underlying common goal being to further the holy war (Islamic Jihad).”
A third FBI memo, dated 1988, identified NAIT as one of many “Ikhwan organizations”—i.e., Muslim Brotherhood fronts—that “are involved in organizing political support” for a long-term plan seeking “to institute the Islamic Revolution in the United States” and “establish political control of all non-Islamic governments in the world.”
NAIT was also named in a May 1991 Muslim Brotherhood document—titled “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America”—as one of the Brotherhood’s 29 likeminded allies dedicated to waging a “grand Jihad” aimed at “eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within.” To view a complete list of the organizations named in that document, click here.
At the 2007 trial investigating allegations that the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development had engaged in the illegal financing of terrorism, both NAIT and ISNA were named as “unindicted co-conspirators” and as “entities who are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.” Prosecutors presented copious evidence that ISNA had used NAIT to divert funds to leading Hamas officials like Mousa Abu Marzook, and to a number of Hamas-run institutions (such as the Islamic University of Gaza and the Islamic Center of Gaza, the latter of which was founded by the late Hamas leader Ahmed Yassin).
The designation of NAIT as an “unindicted co-conspirator” was upheld in 2009 by a federal judge, though that judge ruled against the previous public disclosure of the designation. Many media outlets have repeatedly mischaracterized this as a lifting of the designation.
What is a Waqf? It is sharia. It funds jihad. And means the land will always be under Islamic control.
Waqf (plural: awqaf) generally means the permanent dedication of a portion of one’s wealth for the pleasure of Allah. This means that a portion of a persons property is alienated from him/herself and transferred to Allah. Ownership thus passes from the waqif/a (person making the waqf) to Allah. The property is then used for purposes that are shariah compliant. Essential to the scheme is that the corpus of the property remains intact while income derived therefrom, or the property itself, is used for diverse Islamic causes as a sadaqa jariya (recurring, continuous or on-going charity) including socio-economic, military, or political purposes for the benefit of Muslims as well as non-Muslims.
The local media will not alert residents to any of this information or that the mega-mosque is being planned and funded in conjunction with another Muslim Brotherhood organization. From the mosque’s website:
As a project of two well recognized non-profit organizations, Islamic Center of Kansas, and Muslim American Society-Kansas City, the project is to support and encourage its members to serve the needs of the Islamic community in conformance with Islamic teachings as contained in the Holy Qur’an, Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the traditions of Ahle-Al Sunnah Wa Al-Jama’a.
More on the Muslim American Society (MAS):
Elsayed even went so far as to admit that about 45 percent of MAS’s active members belong to the Brotherhood. Federal officials have confirmed this, noting continued ties between MAS and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
What will be taught at the site, as stated in their purpose in conformance with Islamic sources, should be more than enough to motivate citizens to oppose it with every fiber of their being.
A quick look at a youtube video from the mosque and the comment indicate the hatred that will spew forth.
CausingFitna reminds us that the leader of the the terror-listed ICK partner is not only on a TSA watch list but his daughter was to marry a Muslim convicted of plotting a jihad attack on Chicago!
